The world of IT gets more complex as time progresses, making it harder for users to keep up with the technology, but that is not what employers want their staff to be doing. IT is there as a vehicle to do their role more effectively and at lower cost.

There are plenty of reasons why systems go down but this should be of no interest to the users, all they need to know is how to get the problem fixed. In many organisations the route to a solution is not clear whether this is because there is no procedure laid down or there is insufficient resource. This may be further complicated by the fact that an organisation may be interfacing with one or a number of proprietary software systems with their own help desks…..but which one is looking after what problem. If you are not careful the solution to what could be a simple problem becomes a major exercise resulting in lost time and frustration.
